Women coaching in male dominant arenas is no small task to take on. It takes bravery, courage, confidence, passion, and many more traits. Navigating that avenue is tough as in my own experience it has been a pathway of resistance, judgement, doubt, ego, defiance, rude and degrading comments, and at times just plain ignorance from certain individuals.
If you have walked this path before then you know all too well the experiences, the feelings, the thoughts, the discomfort that can come along with this challenge. This is exactly what it is. A challenge. One that if you are interested in learning more about and are facing- this blog has been created to share, support and build the women up in the coaching arenas of athletics. For all sports and especially the games that are female players but dominated with male coaches. It’s time to confront this area of deficit.
The lack of the female coach as a role model and leader for the female athlete is clear and glaring. Not only in America, but in the world. It’s time to start a conversation. Time to explore the topic and time to speak up about how, when, where, why we can start to shift this toward more balance for the world of female athletes playing games at all levels, all ages.
The 90s era allowed for females to start engaging more in all gender teams and sports. Those players are now grown up and have children of their own. It’s time to bring out their knowledge, skills, and assets and support them for the betterment of a fair world and for the future female athletic generations in the future. It is time to empower them as leaders and coaches in all athletic arenas. Here we are going to do just that! Lets talk about it….explore it…. navigate it together. Let it begin!
Be Confident,
Kelly
